			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>For the first time in forever I walked from my house to the train. That&#8217;s what happens when you never carry cash or change and forget to buy your metrocard. Along the way I saw the usual interactions and in particular the neighborhood Jehovah witnesses going door to door. </p>
<p>Most people, myself included,  get annoyed when the door bell rings at 9am on a Saturday morning. But as I saw them I smiled. These people day in and out have such a strong belief and faith that no matter how many times they get turned away, ignored or cursed out they still keep knocking. </p>
<p>What if we all took that approach in regards to out careers, education, relationships? What if we were all in and no matter what the obstacle, continued to knock until we were heard?</p>
<p>Forget the what if and just keep knocking. </p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>With about 346,004,403 websites (and counting) on the net, it&#8217;s only a matte of time before we run out .com&#8217;s to use. Similar to how 917 and 212 area codes got over loaded, .com domains are on the same path. The Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers was joined by 17 internet specialists and policy advisers to vote on opening the number of the number of Internet name endings- the generic top-level domains (gTLDs).</p>
<p>The vote passed but has brands worried this will add to the ongoing struggle with counterfeiting issues within the industry. Brands will be able to purchase domains such as &#8216;.apparel&#8217; starting in 2013. Additionally they will be able to sell secondary domains.</p>
<p>Experts are taking an educated guess at what the expansion will cost brands. Grand total: $750,000 (at least). Stay tuned for whatsnext.expansion.</p>

<p>Scotch &amp; Soda, a menswear brand with women and children&#8217;s extensions, has a &#8216;cool hip vibe&#8217; according to Michael Kramer (CEO of Kellwood Co). Kellwood recently acquired the brand, adding it to its brand portfolio including Baby Phat, Phat Farm, Sag Harbor and Briggs (Women&#8217;s Wear Daily). Kramer is always looking for brands that speak to the customer and have a strong core in design.</p>

This is the time in fashion were brands are thoughtful in choosing their talent. &#8220;Personality is key as well, being a storyteller to his or her team and to the brand audience, to make the people feel they want to be part of the community&#8221; says Floraine de Saint Pierre (Womans Wear Daily, Thursday July 7th 2011 page 12). Rather than keep an elitest wall up between the brand and it&#8217;s consumers, brands are looking to bridge those connections by seeking designers whom create beautiful garments and breathe a connected life into each piece.</p>

<p><em>Color the Night</em> tells the story of Narumi as she prepares for a dinner date with Gabe. The film starts off at sundown and takes the viewer through an intricate ride of Narumi&#8217;s imagination as she showers, gets dressed, makes dinner and cleans up. Via amazing imagery, music and fashion assembled by his top notch wardrobe team.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>No one was born knowing what a resume was or what to wear to an interview. Most people still don&#8217;t know the concept of &#8220;if you&#8217;re early, you&#8217;re on time. if you&#8217;re on time, you&#8217;re late&#8221; and continue to leave a song on their voicemail recording.</p>
<p>Whether it was your highschool algebra teacher or your basketball coach, someone in your life cared about you enough to show you the ropes. Many at risk young men today, unfortunately, do not have positive role models in their lives.</p>
<p>S.U.I.T. Up (Success and Unity Inspire Transformation) is a community based program started to prepare at risk youth for job placement and college enrollment. The program involves educating students on resume and interview skills, assistance with internship opportunities, on site visits at companies around the tri state area and wardrobe assistance for interviews.</p>
<p>Most of these young men can not afford interview appropriate clothing, S.U.I.T. Up is looking for any gently used suits and shoes to be donated to these young men. Misuse of fabric (nearly 15 to 20 percent of fabric used is discarded due to misuse, WWD), carbon emissions in the air and factory wastes into our water supplies. The urgency on this matter has led one woman to create a call to action.</p>
<p>Sharon Chang, Founder of Yoxi presents &#8220;Trim the Waste of Fashion&#8221;, an online competition calling fashion designers to social change. From now through July 8th, teams can submit one to two minute videos showcasing strategies for success in the three round series.</p>
<p>The final two teams will be flown to NYC for an event taking place during fashion week. The winning team will take home $40,000 and valuable industry knowledge to kick off their greener brands.</p>

<p>1) Don&#8217;t throw it in the bag. Take a durable eco friendly bag from home and put all your fashion buys in there during your next shopping spree. It&#8217;s easy on the environment and easier on your hands.</p>
<p>2) Think outside the box. Like most shoe/sneaker fanatics we all want to keep our fabulous foot wear in their original packing. Consider, a shoe rack/shelf for those crispy kicks or stunning heels and take the boxes to your local recycling center. <p>This particular Sunday on the number train (which I despise by the way) a few drummers came on board. </p>
<p>Their enthusiastic playing and talent reminded me of the rain that waited for me as soon as I exited the train. It spoke to my soul and the sun shine on my face in the form of a smile. I hope it brightens your spirits as much as it did mine. Enjoy! </p>
